The narrow road proceeding towards Porvorim/Mapusa just starting after crossing the old Mandovi bridge needs immediate attention as the condition of the same has totally deteriorated due to monsoons and due to the ongoing construction work of the third bridge which is currently underway. In fact, the road has become so dangerous that it looks like a death trap and which can cause long term damage even for the vehicles which are passing over the same road daily.
The most surprising part of all is that I have personally seen our CM Laxmikant Parsekar, Deputy CM Francis D’Souza traveling so very often whilst proceeding towards Mapusa over the same road but surprisingly they have still not taken any serious note of the same. Why, I wonder? Or the reason why they are still not showing any interest in easing the pain of all those using the said road, especially of two-wheeler riders is just because they happen to travel comfortably sitting inside their hi-fi luxury A/C cars every day without any pain?
The one thing I still don’t understand is that when the government can unleash cops from the traffic cell against all those refusing to wear helmets/seat belts in the name of road safety week so very often, collect huge revenue from those owning vehicles by way of road taxes then why can’t the same government still cannot guarantee us good top-class quality roads to really protect not just our lives but also the lives of our vehicles in Goa?
I think that if the government and the RTO officials are really interested in protecting human lives then instead of harassing those refusing to wear helmets/seat belts, they should immediately take serious note of all such dangerous roads and whose condition currently resembles that of graves of the dead and do the needful at the very earliest. Until that really happens, let us all continue traveling all such roads everyday singing the famous nursery rhyme namely ‘Humpty-Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty-Dumpty had a great fall’ as no one knows when one will go down next or get injured after doing a lot of football-type dodging to protect one’s own vehicles from getting damaged from such dangerous horrible, vandalised or pot-holed roads in Goa.
