Bharat Petroleum sends SMS alerts, denies any fuel shortage in India as US and Israel’s conflict with Iran spreads

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited has assured customers that fuel supplies remain adequate across the country amid social media rumours about shortages. The clarification comes as tensions escalate in West Asia following the ongoing US–Iran conflict.

BPCL sent SMS alerts to customers in English and Hindi stating that claims of fuel shortages circulating on social media are “misleading and baseless.” The state-run company urged citizens not to panic and emphasised that there is sufficient fuel available in the country.

The reassurance comes as the Indian government works to calm public concerns triggered by the conflict in West Asia, which has disrupted global energy markets and raised fears about supply disruptions.

Meanwhile, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri also stated that there is “no shortage of energy in India.” He said the government continues to ensure uninterrupted energy imports despite geopolitical challenges.

Officials have highlighted that India’s crude import sources have diversified significantly in recent years, with increased imports from Russia since 2022.
