Mob leader Lawrence Bishnoi and his gang, implicated in murder, extortion, and arms and drug trafficking in India and abroad, has been officially declared a “terrorist entity” by Canada under its Criminal Code, Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree announced Monday.
This designation allows Canadian authorities to freeze or seize any Bishnoi gang assets, including cash, vehicles, and property, and strengthens the government’s ability to prosecute members for offences, including financing terrorism. Immigration authorities can also bar suspected gang members from entering Canada.

“Acts of violence and terror have no place in Canada, especially those targeting communities to instil fear,” the government said. Canadian law now criminalises knowingly dealing with Bishnoi gang property or providing resources that benefit the organisation.
The move marks another step in improving India-Canada relations following tensions during the final months of Justin Trudeau’s premiership. It comes after MP Frank Caputo urged authorities to label Bishnoi a terrorist last month.
