The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has claimed a major breakthrough in the NEET examination paper leak case by arresting a Pune-based chemistry professor alleged to be the mastermind behind the conspiracy that impacted nearly 23 lakh students across the country.
According to the agency, professor PV Kulkarni was taken into custody on Friday and identified as the primary source of the leak. Investigators said Kulkarni had access to the NEET question papers through his role in the examination process conducted on behalf of the National Testing Agency (NTA), and allegedly misused that access to leak questions to students.
Officials stated that Kulkarni, originally from Latur in Maharashtra, is the eighth person arrested in connection with the case so far. Apart from his official duties, he also conducted private coaching sessions under the banner ‘Raj Coaching Classes’ from his residence in Pune.
The CBI revealed that during a coaching session held in the last week of April, shortly before the NEET examination, Kulkarni allegedly dictated questions, answer choices, and correct responses to students, who copied them into their notebooks.
Investigators later compared the notes taken by the students with the actual NEET question paper conducted on May 3 and found that several questions matched word-for-word. Officials said this evidence played a crucial role in establishing that the leak originated from someone directly connected to the examination system.
The investigation into the high-profile paper leak case is ongoing, with the CBI continuing efforts to identify other individuals involved in the alleged conspiracy.
