Jannik Sinner Battles Fatigue and Rain Delay to Seize Control Against Daniil Medvedev

Rain interrupted play just as Jannik Sinner appeared to have gained the upper hand against Daniil Medvedev in a gripping contest that proved to be the Italian’s toughest challenge of the tournament so far.

Sinner looked dominant in the opening stages of the match, racing through the first four games and clinching the opening set in only 33 minutes. His aggressive start suggested another one-sided victory could be on the cards.

However, Medvedev responded strongly in the second set, winning the first three games and significantly raising his level. The Russian began returning almost everything Sinner threw at him, forcing the Italian into longer rallies and exposing signs of physical exhaustion.

Although Sinner managed to level the set, he increasingly appeared fatigued, repeatedly leaning on his racket between points. After winning the sixth game, the world-class Italian was visibly struggling for breath while seated during the changeover, before eventually conceding the second set.

The momentum shifted again in the deciding stages as Medvedev began committing uncharacteristic errors. Two successive double faults handed Sinner a crucial service break in the third set, allowing the Italian to regain control of the match moments before rain halted play.
