Centre Revises Export Duty on Petrol, Diesel and ATF from June 1

The Central government has revised export duties on petrol, diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF), with the new rates coming into effect from June 1. The move is part of the government’s regular review mechanism aimed at balancing domestic fuel availability with global energy market conditions.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Finance, export duty has been set at ₹1.5 per litre on petrol, ₹13.5 per litre on diesel and ₹9.5 per litre on ATF. The rates are reviewed every fortnight and are linked to average international crude oil prices.

The export duties were first introduced in March amid concerns over energy supplies during the ongoing West Asia crisis. The measure was intended to ensure that adequate quantities of petroleum products remain available for domestic consumption despite fluctuations in global markets.

The government has clarified that the revised duties apply only to exports and will not affect existing excise duty rates on petrol and diesel sold within the country. As a result, there is no immediate impact on retail fuel prices for Indian consumers.

Officials said the periodic review of export duties will continue to help manage fuel supplies while responding to changes in international crude oil markets.
