A sharp political exchange has brought the situation in Manipur back into national focus after Congress leader Pawan Khera urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the violence-hit state during his ongoing North-East tour. In a post on social media, Khera used sarcasm to press the demand, stating that while poll-bound states often receive priority, Manipur should not be “abandoned,” adding that the state has been facing unrest since 2023.
The remarks came as the Prime Minister visited Assam to inaugurate development projects worth over Rs 5,450 crore. Highlighting the geographical proximity between the two states, Khera suggested that the Prime Minister could easily travel to Manipur and reassure residents affected by the prolonged tensions. In a pointed gesture, he also claimed that the Congress had “even booked” a flight from Guwahati to Imphal, sharing what he described as a ticket online.
