A fresh controversy has emerged ahead of the NEET UG 2026 re-examination scheduled for June 21, after a student from Nagpur was reportedly allotted an examination centre in Abu Dhabi, UAE, triggering concerns over the examination process.
The student, identified as Abdullah, was left distressed after discovering that his re-test centre had been assigned in Abu Dhabi despite having appeared for the earlier examination in Nagpur. With the examination just a day away, the unexpected allotment caused anxiety for the student and his family, who questioned how such a change could have occurred.

Responding to the issue, the National Testing Agency (NTA) clarified that its records show the candidate himself had selected Abu Dhabi as his preferred examination city during the correction window. According to the agency, a request seeking a change back to Nagpur was received on the evening of June 19, less than 48 hours before the examination.
The NTA stated that it acted promptly after receiving the request and contacted the candidate’s father the same evening to complete the required formalities. The agency further claimed that its web activity logs indicate the city change was made through the candidate’s registered login credentials and that Abu Dhabi appeared twice during the confirmation process before submission.
NTA Director General Abhishek Singh confirmed that the immediate issue had been resolved and that the candidate’s concerns were addressed. However, he added that the agency has launched an inquiry to determine how the overseas centre was selected in the first place.
One of the possibilities being examined is whether the candidate’s account credentials were compromised. Singh noted that some candidates fail to adequately secure their login details, which can occasionally result in unauthorised changes.
While the student has reportedly been accommodated, the incident has once again raised questions about examination management and the security of candidate accounts in high-stakes national entrance tests.
