Former India cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar has questioned the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selectors for repeatedly overlooking 28-year-old Sarfaraz Khan, despite the batter delivering consistently strong performances in the limited opportunities he has received.
Vengsarkar said he finds it “deeply puzzling” that Sarfaraz has not been given a sustained run in any format for the national side.

“You know, it genuinely surprises me why he hasn’t been selected for India in any format, especially given how consistently he has performed whenever he has had the chance,” he said.
Recalling Sarfaraz’s impressive display against England in Dharamshala, Vengsarkar praised the crucial partnership forged with Devdutt Padikkal during a key phase of the Test, which contributed significantly to India’s victory.
He further expressed disappointment that Sarfaraz was not given another Test opportunity after the England series, despite being part of the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour to Australia.
“He didn’t get a single chance there, and that really confuses me, because he is capable of playing all formats. A talent like this being ignored and sidelined is unfortunate,” Vengsarkar added.
Sarfaraz Khan has been one of India’s most prolific domestic run-getters in recent years, but questions continue to be raised over his limited involvement at the international level.
