The Opposition INDIA bloc, led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress, on Tuesday released its Bihar election manifesto titled ‘Tejashwi Pratigya Pran’ during an event in Patna.
The launch was attended by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, Congress leader Pawan Khera, Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahani, and CPI(ML) leader Dipankar Bhattacharya.
According to ANI, the alliance has promised to enact a law within 20 days of coming to power that would ensure one government job per family in Bihar.
The manifesto also introduces the ‘Mai-Behin Maan Yojana’, under which women will receive financial assistance of 2,500 rupees per month starting from December 1 for the next five years.
In addition, the Mahagathbandhan has pledged to put the Waqf (Amendment) Bill on hold and make the management of Waqf properties more welfare-oriented and transparent.
Bihar is set to vote in two phases — November 6 and November 11, with counting scheduled for November 14.
The Opposition Grand Alliance has named Tejashwi Yadav as its chief ministerial candidate and Mukesh Sahani as the deputy CM face for the upcoming polls.
However, the coalition, which is aiming to unseat Chief Minister Nitish Kumar after four consecutive terms, has been facing internal rifts over seat-sharing and candidate selection. Despite these challenges, Tejashwi Yadav told Hindustan Times that the alliance remains united, describing the contests in some constituencies as “friendly fights” that often occur in coalition politics.
Under the current seat-sharing arrangement, the RJD is contesting 143 seats, Congress 61, VIP 15, Left parties 33, and the Indian Inclusive Party one seat — totaling 253 candidates for 243 assembly seats, underscoring the ongoing tussle among partners within the alliance.
