India and Russia on Friday agreed to expand joint manufacturing of spare parts, components and aggregates for Russian-origin defence platforms, reinforcing the Make-in-India push for the Armed Forces and enabling exports to “mutually friendly” nations.
The announcement followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with President Vladimir Putin, outlined in a joint statement after the summit. Both sides committed to technology transfer and forming joint ventures to strengthen availability and long-term support for Russian equipment.

While defence cooperation remained central, no new defence deal was announced. The talks came a day after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met his Russian counterpart Andrey Belousov to review ongoing projects, including India’s plans for additional S-400 systems and other supplies for Soviet-era platforms.
The leaders welcomed outcomes of the 22nd India–Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military and Military Technical Cooperation, noting a shift towards joint R&D, co-development and co-production of advanced systems. They also reviewed upgrades to BrahMos missiles, long-range missiles for Su-30MKI and MiG-29 jets, and joint manufacture of smaller equipment.
