India will take part in crucial international discussions led by the United Kingdom aimed at addressing the blockade concerns in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most vital energy corridors. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that India’s Foreign Secretary will represent the country at the virtual meeting scheduled later today.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that multiple nations have been invited to the talks amid rising tensions in West Asia and increasing worries over maritime security. The UK has reportedly brought together over 40 countries to discuss ways to ensure safe passage through the crucial oil and gas route.
Notably, the United States will not participate in the meeting. Former US President Donald Trump had earlier indicated that safeguarding the route should not be America’s responsibility, urging dependent nations to take charge.
Clarifying India’s role, Jaiswal emphasised that the country’s participation is focused on maintaining maritime safety and protecting energy security, rather than aligning with any broader military or peace initiative in the region.
