India’s crude oil supply remains secure despite escalating tensions in the Middle East, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri told Parliament on Thursday, cautioning against what he described as “rumour mongering” amid concerns over global energy disruptions.
Addressing the House, the minister said India had taken adequate steps to safeguard its energy needs. “The world has not faced a moment like this in modern energy history. India’s crude supply position is secure, and the volume secured exceeds what the Hormuz would have delivered,” he stated.

The assurance comes as the International Energy Agency warned that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East could trigger the biggest oil supply shock in history. According to the agency, fresh Iranian attacks on energy installations across the Gulf have pushed global crude prices above $100 per barrel.
The current crisis stems from hostilities that erupted on February 28 following joint strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran. Since then, escalating retaliatory actions have threatened critical oil infrastructure in the region.
Analysts warn that the conflict could significantly disrupt global oil supplies and weaken production capacity, raising concerns about its potential impact on the global economy. However, the Indian government maintains that adequate measures have been taken to ensure uninterrupted crude supplies to the country.
