The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested another doctor in connection with the deadly Delhi blast that claimed over a dozen lives last month. Dr Bilal Naseer Malla, a resident of Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir, was taken into custody in Delhi for allegedly harbouring the suicide bomber and destroying key evidence linked to the attack.
Dr Malla has been identified as the eighth accused arrested in the ongoing probe into the November 10 blast near the Red Fort, where suicide bomber Dr Umar blew himself up, killing 15 people and injuring several others. According to the NIA, the arrested doctor played a crucial role in the conspiracy and was part of a wider “white-collar terror module” under investigation.
NIA officials stated that Dr Malla had knowingly provided shelter and logistical support to the bomber, Umar Un Nabi, prior to the attack. He is also accused of tampering with and destroying evidence to shield the perpetrators.
“NIA investigations have revealed that the accused was actively involved in the conspiracy behind the terrorist attack that killed 11 persons and injured many more in the Red Fort area,” the agency said in a statement. “His role in harbouring the suicide bomber and aiding in the destruction of evidence is now established.”
The anti-terror agency is continuing its probe into the network believed to be facilitating recruitment, radicalisation, and operational support for terror activities through professional and educated individuals.
More arrests are likely as the investigation deepens.
