US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said an American submarine torpedoed and sank an Iranian warship in international waters near Sri Lanka on Wednesday. The vessel, identified as IRIS Dena, reportedly went down in the Indian Ocean. Sri Lankan authorities said nearly 150 personnel were missing and several sailors had died following the incident.
Hegseth described the strike as a significant military action, claiming it was the first such attack on an enemy vessel since World War II. The development marks a sharp escalation in regional tensions.
