Prateek Yadav, Mulayam Singh’s Younger son & Akhilesh’s Half-Brother, Dies at 38; Postmortem Reveals Death from Lung Blood Clot

Prateek Yadav, the 38-year-old stepson of late Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, died due to cardiorespiratory collapse caused by massive pulmonary thromboembolism—a severe condition where blood clots block lung arteries. The postmortem report from Lucknow’s Civil Hospital confirmed this on Wednesday, noting all injuries on his body were antemortem, occurring before death. Heart tissue and thromboembolic material were preserved for further analysis, along with viscera for chemical tests.

Prateek’s health deteriorated suddenly at his residence early Wednesday. Hospital director Dr. GP Gupta said authorities received a call around 5 a.m., and a medical team rushed there. Doctors found him in critical condition, rushed him to the hospital by 5:30 a.m., and declared him dead at 5:55 a.m. despite resuscitation efforts.

Who was Prateek Yadav?

Son of Mulayam’s second wife Sadhna Gupta, he was stepbrother to SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and married to BJP leader Aparna Yadav. Educated at the University of Leeds, Prateek shunned active politics for business. He owned “Iron Core Fit” gym in Lucknow and ran “Jeev Ashray” for stray dog welfare.

Earlier this year, he made headlines with social media posts about marital strains with Aparna, announcing divorce plans amid family tensions. His sudden death has shocked political circles in Uttar Pradesh.
