Purnea Member of Parliament Pappu Yadav was arrested by Patna Police from his residence on Friday in connection with a criminal case dating back to 1995.
Confirming the development, Patna SP City Bhanu Pratap Singh said the case was registered under provisions of the erstwhile Indian Penal Code (IPC), which has since been replaced by the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The case pertains to offences under Sections 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 448 (house trespass), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) and is linked to the Gardanibagh police station.
Singh said the trial in the matter is currently underway. The MP had been directed to appear before the court on a scheduled date but failed to do so, following which legal action was initiated and he was taken into custody.
Further legal proceedings will follow as per due process of law.
