This major bus station, which serves as a transit point for multiple districts within the state, has reportedly become a gathering place for individuals seeking alcohol. Given the activities occurring at the depot, concerns have been raised regarding the effectiveness of the security personnel assigned to the area. There is increasing public outcry demanding the suspension of these security guards, with many believing they may be complicit in these incidents. Vasant More, a leader from the Shiv Sena (UBT), has alleged that certain individuals are utilizing the scrapped buses as makeshift lodgings.
The occurrence of this rape incident within the jurisdiction of the state’s transport minister has prompted inquiries regarding the seriousness with which the administration and political figures will address the issue. “The event at the Swargate ST bus station is utterly reprehensible. I have engaged in discussions with Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar regarding the urgent apprehension and stringent punishment of the perpetrator. CCTV surveillance has already been implemented at the Swargate bus stand, and additional enhancements will be undertaken. A thorough evaluation of passenger safety protocols, particularly for women, will be carried out in collaboration with the transport department and local authorities,” stated Madhuri Misal, Minister of State for Transport and Social Justice.

Vasant More stated, “Observing the buses located at the rear of the depot reveals that incidents of sexual assault occur here on a daily basis. Individuals have converted these buses into makeshift accommodations. This indicates that such assaults are taking place regularly, even in the presence of the security personnel assigned to this area. Items such as sarees, condoms, and condom wrappers have been discovered here. It is imperative that the depot manager be suspended and that appropriate measures be taken against the security staff.”
Pramod Nehul, the Pune Division Controller of ST Administration, remarked, “There are five decommissioned buses belonging to Bhagirath Transport at the Swargate depot. These buses were leased by the ST administration and are currently in the process of being removed. The installation of twenty-four CCTV cameras throughout the depot has facilitated the identification of the individuals involved in this case. The ST administration, along with the security personnel, is fully cooperating with law enforcement.”
