The Singapore Police Force will establish a new specialised unit called the SPF Cyber Command in July to strengthen the country’s fight against scams and cybercrime.
The announcement was made by Goh Pei Ming during an anti-scam conference on Monday. According to officials, the new command will initially consist of around 200 officers handling operations, investigations and intelligence gathering related to cyber threats and online fraud.
Authorities said the long-term goal is to expand the unit to more than 400 officers as its capabilities continue to grow alongside other police divisions.
“The Cyber Command will be the tip of the spear in SPF’s response to cyber threats and be at the forefront of protecting Singaporeans from cybercrime and scams,” Goh said during his address.
The move comes amid increasing concerns over online scams, phishing attacks, digital fraud and cyber-enabled crimes affecting individuals and businesses across Singapore.
The new Cyber Command will consolidate several existing police units already working on cyber-related crimes. In 2015, Singapore established a cybercrime unit within the Criminal Investigation Department to tackle emerging online threats. Later, in 2019, the police launched the Anti-Scam Centre under the Commercial Affairs Department, which was further expanded into the Anti-Scam Command in 2022.
Officials confirmed that both the cybercrime unit and Anti-Scam Command will now operate under the newly created Cyber Command once it becomes functional in July.
Singapore authorities have significantly increased efforts in recent years to combat online scams, which continue to evolve through social media platforms, messaging applications and digital payment systems.
The government believes consolidating cybercrime expertise and investigative resources under a single command structure will improve response times, intelligence sharing and enforcement capabilities against increasingly sophisticated cybercriminal networks.
