Exiled Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen has sharply criticised the International Crimes Tribunal’s verdict sentencing former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death, questioning why chief advisor Muhammad Yunus and his “jihadist forces” were not being held accountable for similar actions.
Nasreen, writing from India where she has lived in exile since 1994, accused Yunus’s interim government of shielding those who “ordered to shoot protesters”, even as Hasina was declared guilty of crimes against humanity linked to last year’s student uprising.

The tribunal convicted Hasina on three counts, incitement to violence, issuing orders to kill protesters, and failing to stop atrocities, while former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan also received the death penalty. The verdict, arriving ahead of the February election, is expected to reshape Bangladesh’s political landscape.
Hasina called the ruling “biased” and “politically motivated”, while Yunus insisted that no one was above the law.
