The West Midlands Police have launched an urgent manhunt after a 20-year-old woman, believed to be of Indian heritage, was subjected to a “racially aggravated” rape in the Park Hall area of Walsall, northern England.
Officers were called to the scene on Saturday evening following reports of a distressed woman on the street. Police have now released CCTV footage of the suspect and appealed to the public for information that could help trace him.

“This was an absolutely appalling attack on a young woman, and we are doing everything possible to find the person responsible,” said Detective Superintendent Ronan Tyrer, who is leading the investigation. “We have teams recovering evidence and building a profile of the attacker so that he can be brought into custody as soon as possible.”
The suspect has been described as a white man in his 30s, with short hair, wearing dark clothing at the time of the incident. Police are urging anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area or captured relevant footage on CCTV or dashcams to come forward.
While officers have not officially confirmed the victim’s identity, community sources have claimed that she is a Punjabi woman. The attack has sparked concern within the local South Asian community, coming just weeks after the racially aggravated rape of a British Sikh woman in nearby Oldbury.
“At this stage, we are not linking this attack to any other offences,” DS Tyrer clarified.
Specialist teams from the force’s Public Protection Unit and local officers are working to recover video evidence, speak to witnesses, and identify the perpetrator.
Chief Superintendent Phil Dolby of Walsall Police said officers are engaging closely with local residents to address safety concerns. “Walsall is a diverse area, and we understand the fear and concern this awful attack will cause. There will be an increased policing presence in the coming days,” he assured.
The Sikh Federation UK, citing local sources, confirmed the victim’s Punjabi background and urged police to act swiftly. “West Midlands Police have now had two racially aggravated rapes of young women in their 20s in the last two months and urgently need to find those responsible,” the organisation said in a statement.
In the previous Oldbury case, police made several arrests, but the suspects were released on bail as investigations continue.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact West Midlands Police immediately, emphasizing that even small details could prove crucial in identifying the attacker.
