Currently, the United States and Europe are not only separated by an ocean but also by escalating tensions exacerbated by Donald Trump. In the midst of this unrest, Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, will commence a two-day visit to India today (February 27), accompanied by the 27 Commissioners of the EU, collectively known as the College of Commissioners. The Ministry of External Affairs of India has confirmed this visit, stating, “This marks the inaugural visit of the EU College of Commissioners to India and is among the first such visits since the current European Commission began its mandate in December 2024, following the European parliamentary elections held in June 2024.”
Herve Delphin, the Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to India, expressed that this visit marks a pivotal moment for the relationship between the two regions. He stated, “This week is crucial for EU-India relations. For the first time, the president of the European Commission, along with the entire college, which is akin to a full EU government, will be in Delhi for two days of discussions. This visit carries significant symbolism and highlights the value the EU places on its relationship with India. We view each other as preferred partners and as positive forces in the world.”
