Wangchuk’s wife backs India, alleges campaign to tarnish his image

After activist Wangchuk’s arrest in Leh, his wife Angmo accuses the government of ransacking their home and spreading false narratives to tarnish his image.

Two days after violent protests in Leh left four dead and 59 injured, activist Wangchuk was arrested by a police team led by Ladakh DGP S D Singh Jamwal. His wife, Angmo, co-founder of the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, condemned his detention and accused the government of spreading false narratives to malign his reputation. She alleged their home was ransacked and criticized his portrayal as “anti-national.” Angmo called for a prime-time debate on the allegations, citing Wangchuk’s work in agriculture, environment, and international awards, and questioned the BJP’s adherence to Hindu principles.
