Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru will face Gujarat Titans in the high-voltage Qualifier 1 of IPL 2026 at the HPCA Stadium on Tuesday. With a direct place in the IPL final at stake, weather concerns have now become a major talking point ahead of the blockbuster encounter.
RCB head into the clash with plenty of confidence after finishing the league stage as table-toppers. The Bengaluru-based franchise will aim to reach their second straight IPL final and continue their title defence. On the other hand, GT will be looking to make their third IPL final appearance and first since the 2023 season.
Rain threat looms over Dharamshala showdown
According to the weather forecast, there remains a possibility of rain before the start of the game, with precipitation chances reportedly above 50 percent earlier in the evening. However, the forecast also suggests that rain chances are expected to reduce as the night progresses.
Still, a prolonged interruption could create major complications. IPL rules state that both teams must play a minimum of five overs each for a result to be declared. If weather conditions do not allow that to happen, the contest would officially be abandoned.
The stakes are massive because there is no reserve day scheduled for Qualifier 1 or the Eliminator in IPL 2026. That means the league-stage standings will become the deciding factor if the match is washed out completely.
What happens if RCB vs GT gets abandoned?
In the event of a complete washout, RCB will automatically qualify for the IPL 2026 final because they finished first in the league standings. GT, despite ending second on the points table, would miss out on a direct final berth and instead move to Qualifier 2.
The Shubman Gill-led side would then face the winner of the Eliminator in a do-or-die clash for a place in the final. It would come as a major disappointment for GT, who earned a top-two finish but could lose their direct route to the title clash because of rain.
RCB also receive a timely boost ahead of the encounter, with English opener Phil Salt reportedly fit again and available for selection. Their bowling attack will once again rely heavily on Purple Cap holder Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Meanwhile, GT’s hopes will largely depend on skipper Shubman Gill and opener Sai Sudharsan, while pacers Kagiso Rabada and Jason Holder are expected to lead the bowling unit in the crucial playoff clash.
