The move is aimed at keeping a strict vigil on the affairs of its administrative section.
According to MMC Chief Officer Deepali Naik, the process of installing CCTV cameras started a few days back, and 11 cameras out of 15 proposed by the council had already been installed.
“Except for the recovery section, the other offices, including accounts and taxation section, administrative section, technical section, inward and payment section, main MMC hall, all corridors and staircases are now under CCTV vigil. Soon we will install CCTVs in the cabins of the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Chief Officer, and Municipal Engineer so that all offices and corners of MMC will be under 24/7 surveillance,” said Naik.
She further said, “The aim of installing CCTV cameras is to regulate the functioning and maintain discipline in the municipality. The CCTV footage can be viewed from two locations: the offices of the Chairperson and Chief Officer.”
Meanwhile, MMC Chairperson Deepak Naik said that it was his aim to give a clean and transparent administration to the citizens.
He stated, “Many times we have heard complaints that some staff members misbehaved with a citizen or vice versa. Having cameras will maintain fear in the minds of the staff and citizens as everything can be checked at any time with the CCTV recordings.”
He said, “In 2004, when I was chairperson, I started a similar process to make our municipality high-tech. However, our standards came down each year. Now, I promise the people that, as committed to them before the municipal elections, we will give a completely transparent system to the citizens.”
