CANACONA: High intensity winds followed by heavy rains uprooted at least 11 trees at various places causing damage to properties in Canacona taluka on Sunday.
Officials of the Canacona Fire and Emergencies Services were kept busy as they claimed to have received as many as 11 emergency calls of trees getting uprooted at several locations in the taluka. They said most distress calls were received between 3 am and 5 am. The team comprising of Tulshidas Desai, Lekhak Daikar, Constatino Colaco, Vasant Velip and Vivek Naik cleared the trees, which had fallen on houses, vehicles and on a chapel at Ovrem, Palolem. According to rain gauze station at Chaudi, 20.4 mm rainfall was recorded during the past 24 hours.
