Following a course on First Aid organised by Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott in Chandor, 14 young persons qualified as trained personnel to provide first aid in any given emergency.
The course was conducted by the Goa branch of the international organisation St John Ambulance Association. Surgeon Examiner Dr Jorson Fernandes was the main faculty with Sr Sheetal Dessai as co-faculty and Larina Fernandes as trainee faculty.
Initially 17 persons from the villages of Guirdolim and Cavorim Chandor enrolled for the course. However, only 14 answered the examinations and all qualified. The participants included students, teachers and even professionals coming from ages ranging from 12 to 45 years.
The practical examination held enacting a real life situation of an accident case turned out to be so realistic that people present at the scene rushed in to help.
Maria Silvia D’Silva, a teacher while evaluating the course said it would help her in her profession particularly as she looks deals with the Guides in the school. Darwin Cardozo recalled how he and his friends had a tough time to move a casualty while at a picnic and said the course had taught some very simple techniques which were extremely effective.
All the successful candidates were presented certificates by GBE President Rui da Silva while the faculty members were presented momentos by project manager Darwin Cardozo.
