PANJIM: As many parts of the State are enduring frequent power breakdowns, the government is ready with an answer saying they are carrying out maintenance work, while urging consumers to allow 15-20 days to resolve the problem.
Admitting power cuts across several places, Nilesh Cabral, Power Minister said the department is trying to improvise the situation. “During the monsoons, there is a disturbance in the overhead lines and this in turn results in power cuts. 38 per cent of the State has forest cover. Somewhere or the other, the trees or its branches fall during the monsoon damaging the power supply. We are nonetheless trying to resolve the issue as soon as possible,” he said.
The consumers will have to go through the hardship for a fortnight or more, as the minister said it would take some time.
“All the concerned staff is on duty round the clock but it will take 15-20 days to fix the problem,” he said, while adding that he is monitoring the situation, having visited sub-stations in South Goa.
Meanwhile, in a public notice, the power dept has advised consumers to take extra precaution to use quality equipments. “The use of generators without permission is illegal and same will be inspected. The consumers should take precaution while handling equipments,” the department warned.
