PANJIM: A day after recommending the suspension of Fisheries Director Shamila Monteiro, Fisheries Minister Vinod Palyekar cracked a major whip ordering the transfers of 18 staffers of the Department.
According to the order issued by Monteiro, 18 staffers have been transferred to different sections in the same department. As per the orders nine peons and nine lower division clerks have been shunted to different sections.
The, minister who is in Delhi for departmental work, said it was routine and nothing much should be read into it. “I do not want to make any comment,” he said.
However, sources said that the transfers were long due. “As per rules transfers have to be affected every three years but here there are some people for 10-12 years,” an official said.
Sources also admitted that the minister was unhappy with the lethargic approach of the department. “The minister has found lot of irregularities in the department and wants to put in place a system,” the source said.
Amonst those transferred are peons Shobha Parab, Sudha Gawade, Gauri Chodankar, Norman Ricardo Pires Soares, Felipe Colaco, Pritam Prakash Shirodkar, Niella Valancy Fernandes, Rajendra Naik and Gangaram Rathod.
Amongst the LDCs transferred are Ujwala Shirodkar, Umesh Kulkarni, Damodar Kalangutkar, Prathamesh Shirodkar, Renisha Cardozo, Frida Barretto, Richard Raicar, Ashwini Gaonkar and Canira Raicar.
