Traffic was disrupted on the Kerya–Khandepar highway on the Belgaum–Ponda road after a laterite-laden tipper truck climbed the road divider and toppled, scattering stones across the carriageway. The incident occurred around 10:30 am.
The truck driver, Bablu Davane (45) of Kudne, Bicholim, and another occupant sustained injuries and were shifted to GMC. Davane told police he briefly lost consciousness, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.

The impact damaged the road divider, broke the truck’s axle, and uprooted an electricity pole. Authorities said it was a lucky escape for motorists travelling in the opposite lane.
Locals noted that similar accidents have occurred in the area due to the uneven gradient of the highway. Residents said vehicles often jump or skid while climbing the elevated section, leading them to mount the divider. In earlier incidents, two buses had also ended up on the divider, though without injuries.
Curti–Khandepar Panch member Abhijeet Gaude and local resident Vishal Naik blamed the low, poorly designed divider and the uneven road levels, urging authorities to increase the divider height, widen the carriageway, and straighten the gradient to prevent further mishaps.
