VASCO: A mock emergency exercise on aircraft crash was carried out in the open ground near Chicolna-Bogmalo bus stop on Wednesday.
The one-and-a-half hour long exercise, involving about 200 participants from multiple agencies and volunteers was initiated by the naval authorities from INS Hansa, informed a naval official.
The scenario involved an Airbus-320 developing some problems and crashing on the ground near Chicolna- Bogmalo bus stop (adjacent to Dabolim airport runway) with passengers and crew on board. The Air Traffic Controller (ATC) at Dabolim Airport immediately activated the alarm and declared Crash Action. Airport rescue and firefighting services, ambulance services, Goa Police, RTO, taluka disaster management team and other agencies including airline officials swung into action.
The scenario depicted passengers with injuries and casualties. The exercise focused on treating and shifting passengers to hospitals, as well as making the area safe for operations.
“The scenario gave the rescue team a real-time experience to meet with any eventuality and to study emergency preparedness during such incidents. The basic idea was to analyse the preparedness of different agencies in case of such accidents. The mock emergency exercise, which started at 9.30 am, concluded at 11.30 am successfully,” naval officer added.
