3 houses damaged, low-lying areas submerged in Salcete

Incessant rains over the last 24 hours have left three houses damaged in Salcete, while low lying areas in many parts of the taluka were inundated by flood waters.
At Velim, a residential house belonging to A Caeiro was damaged after a tree came crashing down last night, causing a loss of Rs 10,000.
Another house at Nagmodem was left damaged after a tree fell on the structure this morning. Property worth Rs 5000 was damaged in the incident.
Fire services informed that a house was damaged near the Panchayat ghar at Majorda today.
Meanwhile, flood waters entered the houses behind the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao this evening. The marooned family of Vishwakant Volvoikar and Suleima had to wade through knee deep waters as the drain water entered their houses. They attributed the floods to the land filling work carried out by the authorities inside the Ravindra Bhavan complex.
A resident of Navelim had claimed that rain waters entered his house at Bellem due to water logging caused by man made factors.
Meanwhile, district Collector G P Naik told Herald that the authorities are maintaining a strict vigil over the situation. He said vast tracks of low lying areas in the district are inundated by flood waters, adding that there may be a cause for concern on Saturday if the rain continues for the next 12 hours.
