life hit in Canacona
HERALD CORRESPONDENT
CANACONA, JULY 3
Incessant rains disrupted normal life in Canacona, as strong winds kept several residents on their toes for fear of trees uprooting in their localities.
A Nilgiri tree, whose roots were recently opened by PWD (Highways) while widening the highway at Khawat-Canacona, got uprooted in the strong cyclonic winds on Friday evening.
The uprooted tree fell on the other side of the highway, thereby causing no disruption to the highway traffic. Several other Nilgiri trees are seen precariously placed between Partagal and Poinguinim.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that strong winds have destroyed banana plantations, besides few coconut trees were uprooted mostly on the coastal belt. However, fire services confirmed that there was no major damage in the taluka.
