PANJIM: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has decided to reduce 30% of the syllabus for students of Class IX to XII, to ease the burden on them, when schools reopen for the new academic year 2020-21.
The Academic Council of the Goa Board, which met on Tuesday, granted its nod for reduction in the syllabus, as proposed by Board of Studies of GBSHSE.

Goa Board Chairman Ramkrishna Samant said the Academic Council has given approval for 30% reduction in syllabus for students from Class IX to Class XII for the current academic year. He added that the Board will work on the syllabus accordingly.
Schools have been shut since March 15. As per latest MHA guidelines, schools will continue to remain shut till July 31, until further orders. The students have already lost one-and-a-half month of the academic year 2020-21.
Sources said the decision to reduce the syllabus was taken after consulting stakeholders including the Principal’s Forum and Goa Headmasters’ Association.
“The decision to trim the syllabus will be applicable only for the current academic year. The secondary and higher secondary schools will be informed about the syllabus, accordingly,” sources added
