An unknown speeding vehicle mowed down as many as four buffaloes on the National Highway No 17 at Cuncolim on Monday.
The buffaloes were found dead on the road over a distance of 10-15 metres and are believed to have been killed after being run over by the speeding vehicle in the wee hours today.
Cuncolim police said the accident might have occurred at around 6.30 am after the vehicle hit the cattle and sped away. An accident case has been registered by the police.
The carcasses of the animals were later buried alongside the highway in the adjoining fields.
