MAPUSA: Four thieves who were accused of stealing approximately Rs 12 lakh from Dev Bodegeshwar temple, Mapusa have been arrested in Raigad District, Maharashtra. The Goa Police team is already present in Raigad and will take custody of the accused and proceed to Goa. The Mapusa Police had alerted their Maharashtra counterparts about the theft at Dev Bodgeshwar temple, Mapusa PI Nikhil Palyekar told O Heraldo.
It is reported that of the Rs 12 lakh stolen by the thieves, police have recovered Rs 7 lakh from the accused.

It may be recalled that in the wee hours of April 30, the Dev Bodgeshwar temple was burgled. The thieves tied the security guard to the chair and decamped with the cash. CCTV footage showed the thieves entering the temple at 2.07 am. They tied the security guard and ransacked the fund box.
Fortunately, a devotee who later came to the temple for early morning worship, freed the security guard and alerted the temple committee. The temple committee in turn alerted the Mapusa police who came to the temple and conducted the panchanama. The Mapusa police had registered a case under Section 350(theft) of the IPC.
