In Vantem here, five houses had to bear the brunt of the flood fury and are yet to receive compensation for the damages they sustained.

Nitin  Shivdekar, a village panch said, “I’m running from pillar to post to do the follow-up on the compensation claims filed at the Mamlatdar’s office here but it has been a futile exercise.”

It may be recalled that nearly 220 houses were either damaged or had collapsed with the incessant downpour but the Mamlatdar, Kaushik Desai  said that the office had cleared all compensation claims.

Desai stated that those whose houses had collapsed received a compensation of Rs one lakh while those whose houses were damaged were given a compensation of Rs 50,000.

Valpoi Mamlatdar also said that this year they had not received any claims for compensation and appealed to the people to come forward to take the benefit of government aid if they were victims of natural calamities.

The Mamladar along with Valpoi Irrigation Department officials visited the Paikul village and inspected the ongoing bridge work and requested the villagers not to drive on the temporary bridge by putting their lives at risk. The officials checked the water level of the Ragada river and  erected sign boards at the bridge site.
