PORVORIM: At least 50 residents from Sangolda confronted the assistant engineer, Electricity Department Porvorim, and demanded immediate replacement of the transformer and electricity poles which supply power to Sangolda.
The residents barged into the office of the assistant engineer, Electricity Department Porvorim, and informed Assistant Engineer Anil Kumar that they are facing frequent disruption in power supply for the last nine years.
“The transformer at Butki which supplies power to Sangolda is over 17 years old and the power goes off every day at 6 am and returns at about 9 am. If the power is cut off at night, then it is restored only after 4 hours or so,” complained a resident.
“Due to frequent disruption in power supply, electrical appliances of the residents have been damaged,” added the resident.
The residents have urged the Electricity Department to take immediate action to replace the old transformer before the onset of monsoon, failing which they will be forced to agitate.
Maria Noronha told the assistant engineer that they have not received electricity bills for the last 6 months. “It is not possible for the poor people to pay the bills of huge amount at one stroke. Hence, they should be permitted to pay the bill amount in instalments,” said Noronha.
Assistant Engineer Kumar assured the residents to look into the matter and solve their grievances within 10 days.
