PANJIM: Forest Minister Alina Saldanha informed that so far there were six committees to identify private forests but denied allegations that the criteria adopted by the various committees were different.
Replying to a question by Rohan Khaunte, Alina reiterated saying, “the criteria as of date is the same.”
Khaunte wanted to know the date on which the process of identifying private forests started in the State, the number of committees constituted by the Government to identify the private forests in Goa and details thereof.
According to the minister, the process had started from January 24, 1997 and six committees were appointed to study the issue.
When asked for the reason for appointing these many committees by Government in the subject matter, the reply was “To identify the forests in the State of Goa.”
