Acting on a tip off, the Maina Curtorim police conducted a raid on late Tuesday night at Davorlim and rescued around 60 bulls which were brought for slaughtering on the eve of Id on Wednesday.
Maina curtorim PI Sidhant Shirodkar informed that the police has arrested three persons under section 429 and 511 of the IPC for bringing the cattle for the purpose of slaughtering them near the railway gate at Davorlim. He provided the names of the arrested persons as Shaik Abdul, a resident of Davorim, Vijay Varde and Suresh Varde, both residents of Kudal, Maharashtra.
“The police received specific information that some persons would bring the cattle near the railway gate for the purpose of slaughtering on the occasion of Id festival”, he said.
PI Shirodkar informed that the police has been deployed near the Davorlim railway gate to ensure that the cattle is guarded and not lifted away by the owners.
South SP, Allan de Sa and Margao DySP Umesh Gaonkar were not available for comments.
e possibility of the police acting on a complaint lodged with the Department of Animal Husbandry over the slaughtering of cattle during Id festivities.
