MARGAO: 67 candidates will battle it out to get elected to the 14-member Cuncolim Municipal Council following the withdrawal by one candidate on Saturday, which was the last date for withdrawal of nominations.
Kundam Dessai withdrew the nomination filed from Ward No. 14. The highest number of candidates is in Ward Nos. 2 and 9, which are both in the general category and where 10 candidates have filed nominations in each of the wards. In Ward No. 13, which is in general category, there is a straight fight between Mario Melbon Egidio Da Costa and Xavier Anthony Vaz.
In Ward No. 3, which is reserved for women, there are seven candidates while in Ward No. 5, which in general category, there are six candidates followed by Ward No. 12, which again is in general category, where there are five candidates.
While there are four candidates each in Ward No. 1, which is reserved for women; Ward No. 4, which is reserved for ST women and Ward No. 6, which is reserved for OBC; there are three candidates each in Ward No. 7, reserved for women; Ward No. 8, reserved for OBC and Ward Nos. 10, 11 and 14, all of which are in the general category.
