The new accreditation from NAAC places GU in 18th position among all central and state universities in the country, and 12th among state universities.
“We have been elevated from ‘B’ grade to the highest ‘A’ grade for the next five years. We were keen to get rid of ‘B’ grade. Our effort to come to this standard started one to two years ago,” Vice Chancellor Dr Satish Shetye told a press briefing to announce the NAAC decision on Thursday.
The rating places GU either at par or higher than some of the better established and older universities of Mangalore, Karnataka, Madurai Kamraj, Pune and Saurashtra.
The universities and colleges that figure in this announcement were evaluated in the last few months. “This grade comes as a morale booster to all students, graduates and faculty of the university and its affiliated colleges. The immediate beneficiaries of the new rating are likely to be recent graduates who are seeking employment. They can now flaunt their degrees from a university that enjoys the highest of the ratings awarded by NAAC,” Shetye said. The commissioning of 20,000 sq mts Science Faculty Block in May 2013 into which four faculties have been shifted, spacious premises for other departments to grow, increasing annual
intake of students, strengthening of Internal Quality Assessment (IQC) that kept a track of every department to help maintain quality.
