The protesters alleged that the implementation of smart meters would place an additional financial burden on consumers and called for the immediate withdrawal of the scheme.
In anticipation of the demonstration, heavy police deployment was witnessed at the Nageshi junction, where security personnel were stationed to prevent the protesters from proceeding towards the minister’s residence in Bandora.
The protest remained focused on the party’s demand for the cancellation of the smart meter project and relief for consumers affected by increasing electricity charges.
The demonstration comes amid growing public debate over the implementation of smart meters in Goa, with various organisations and political parties raising concerns over the project’s impact and seeking greater clarity from the government.
