MARGAO: Issuance of birth certificates by the Margao Municipal Council was disrupted on Thursday for want of authorized staff to sign the documents.
A large number of applicants who had applied for the birth certificates to apply for admissions in educational institutions had to return home disappointed in the absence of the concerned staff.
Parents who had applied for birth certificates at the Margao Municipal Council informed that they were asked to come on Friday to collect the certificates.
Lydia Vaz said she wanted the birth certificate for admission of her ward in an educational institution on Friday, but in vain. Other applicants echoed similar sentiments, wondering why the civic body did not put in place the necessary arrangements to issue the certificates.
Inquires revealed that the UDC authorized to sign on the birth certificates, has proceeded on a month’s leave.
Sources stated that the municipal administration had delegated the work of signing the certificates to another UDC (presently indisposed), but is believed to be signing the certificates only in the evening.
Coincidentally, the office superintendent has also proceeded on leave, throwing the work on the issuance of birth certificates out of gear at a time when there’s a beeline for birth certificates for admissions to educational institutions.
