PANJIM: Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) that is probing the disproportionate assets case against Leader of the Opposition Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar is yet to receive detailed information from the Income Tax Department regarding returns filed by Kavlekar.
An ACB officer said they have had to source all the documents from various agencies afresh. “The documentation, which was done during the preliminary inquiry, is not valid after a fresh FIR was registered, so now we have sourced all the information again,” the officer said.
He said that ACB has received information from various authorities, except the Income Tax Department, which will be received shortly.
Kavlekar was booked by ACB on September 15, 2017 in a disproportionate assets case after property worth crores of rupees was found in his possession. He was also facing a preliminary inquiry in a disproportionate assets case since 2013 but the fresh FIR has submerged the same. Kavlekar is also being probed by Crime Branch for his alleged nexus in the illegal matka trade in the State after an ACB raiding team found some matka slips and diaries of accounts of cash transactions.  ACB sourced information on the properties from the Election Commission, Goa Lokayukta, Sub Registrar and Income Tax department.
