MARGAO: Colva Village Panchayat has come under the rule of an Administrator.
Director of Panchayats, Narayan Sawant has said he has appointed an Administrator for Colva Panchayat following the ouster of Sarpanch Snowkon Gonsalves and his deputy Blanca. The Panchayat Director said he has taken the decision to appoint the administrator based on the report from the Salcete Block Development Officer.
Sources in the know said the Panchayat Director’s decision was communicated to the Salcete Block Development Officer on Friday and the Panchayat Secretary Edwin Carvalho said he has entered the correspondence in the Panchayat office on Sunday.
The no-trust motion against the sarpanch and deputy was marked by a row after the Block Development Officer observer failed to turn up for the meeting, citing health grounds and the copy of the motion going missing from the office file. The Panchayat Secretary, however, had gone ahead with the no-trust motion, which saw five panchayat members passing the motion against the sarpanch and deputy sarpanch .
Meanwhile, Snowkon Gonsalves has challenged the panchayat secretary’s decision in the court of Additional Director of Panchayats.
