Mopa, Goa: The Mopa Airport Police have arrested a 29-year-old Afghan national for allegedly fraudulently obtaining an Indian passport by using forged identity documents and misrepresenting himself as an Indian citizen.
According to police, the case was registered on June 17, 2026, following a complaint lodged by Ajaykumar Jivane, Immigration Officer with the Bureau of Immigration at Manohar International Airport (Mopa), Goa.

During the investigation of Mopa Airport Police Station Crime No. 28/2026, officials discovered that the accused, identified as Kanish Singh alias Manish Singh, an Afghan national holding Passport No. 00068135, had allegedly entered and travelled within India without valid travel documents.
Police further alleged that the accused dishonestly created a false identity in the name of “Manish Singh” and submitted forged documents to government authorities to secure an Indian passport. Using the fabricated identity, he allegedly succeeded in fraudulently obtaining Indian Passport No. R2691261, which he then used as a genuine travel document.
Investigators also revealed that the accused knowingly used fake identity documents during the passport application process, thereby allegedly cheating the concerned authorities.
Based on the complaint and preliminary investigation, Mopa Airport Police have registered an offence under Sections 212, 336(2), 336(3), 337, 339, 340(2), and 318(4) read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 3(1), 12(1)(2), 21, 22 and 23 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.
The accused has been arrested and is currently in police custody. Further investigation into the case is underway, including efforts to ascertain the source of the forged documents and whether others were involved in facilitating the alleged fraud.
