A Goan man living in the United Kingdom is being widely praised for his bravery after reportedly playing a key role in rescuing a child from drowning at Coate Water Country Park in Swindon.
Rezetine Gomes, originally from Agacaim in Goa and now residing in Swindon, has been publicly recognised for his courageous actions during the emergency, which unfolded on Saturday afternoon.

According to reports, the child wandered away while visiting Coate Water’s popular splash park with family members before falling into the lake. As panic spread among relatives and bystanders, several members of the public immediately joined the search and rescue effort.
Emergency services, including police, ambulance crews and the Great Western Air Ambulance, rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the incident. The child was successfully pulled from the water and was conscious and breathing before being transported to hospital for further medical assessment.
The rescue effort quickly attracted widespread attention, with London councillor Floyd Dias Do Rosario, who represents Wembley Hill, publicly acknowledging Rezetine Gomes for his reported involvement.
In a statement, the councillor expressed his sincere appreciation to Gomes, highlighting that he is originally from Agacaim, Goa, India. He praised the Goan for displaying exceptional courage, community spirit and a commitment to helping others during a life-threatening situation.
“According to reports, the child was successfully rescued from the water and was conscious and breathing when transported to hospital. I commend all emergency personnel and members of the public who assisted during this incident. I especially wish to acknowledge Rezetine Gomes for his reported contribution to the rescue effort. Such actions reflect the values of courage, community spirit and public service,” the councillor said.
He also extended his best wishes to the child and family, hoping for a full and speedy recovery.
