CANACONA: The body of Jason Fernandes (26) was recovered at Agonda beach on Tuesday morning, as gloom descended on Agonda over the drowning of two siblings from the village.
The body of Jason Fernandes was washed ashore at about 6 am, about 200 metres from the site of the ill-fated fishing trip.
Jocelyn Fernandes (29) had attempted to rescue her brother, Jason, late Monday evening when his leg had got entangled to a net they had cast in the sea. Jocelyn also got dragged into the sea and she was later pulled ashore, but was declared dead at the Canacona Community Health Centre (CHC).
Both bodies were sent for an autopsy, before they were handed over to the bereaved families in two houses at Agonda.
Meanwhile, Agonda village grieved over the tragic loss of the two siblings as hundreds of mourners visited both houses to offer condolences to the bereaved families on Tuesday. The funerals are scheduled to take place on Wednesday evening,
Jocelyn is survived by her husband, Cadgon, a 5-year-old daughter and a 6-month-old baby girl.
While the father of the siblings is a retired seaman, their mother is a retired teacher.
Both parents were informed about the deaths only on Tuesday morning, after the body of Jason was recovered from the sea.
Jason, also a seaman, had returned only a fortnight ago after his voyage was cut-short to just 4 months, as his company had sold the ship and the crew was replaced by a new company.
Meanwhile, Canacona Mamlatdar Sudin Natu visited the site at 7 am to take stock of the situation.
