PANJIM: Social activist Adv Aires Rodrigues has threatened to challenge the Cabinet approval for paying monthly retainership fee of Rs 7.5 lakh to senior counsel Atmaram Nadkarni for representing Goa in various legal matters.
Saying that he would challenge the Cabinet approval before the High Court, Adv Aires called the decision as “blatantly illegal, arbitrary and very high-handed.”
Adv Rodrigues informed that Nadkarni is currently paid by the Central government Rs 50,000 as retainership and Rs 24,000 per hearing. Besides the retainership, the Cabinet has also agreed to increase his fees to Rs 3 lakh per appearance with effect from Dec 1.
